Benefits of Touch & Baby Massage
Massaging your babbas is a great way to bond with them. It also gives them more sensory stimulation which helps with healthy development.
One of the best and most important way we communicate with our babies is touch. We hug, kiss and hold them every day, massage has shown to be critical to baby’s communication, learning and growth.
Hospitals, birthing centres etc, place newborns on the mother’s chest to give them as much skin to skin contact as possible.
Of course, this wasn’t an option for me, because my boys were rushed straight to the NICU.
But after a week, both Anton and I were encouraged to have as much kangaroo care (skin to skin contact) as possible. The nurses knew that a gentle and loving touch, helps babies grow stronger and feel less anxious.
Massage when possible at the hospital, helps premature babies to gain weight.
Us NICU parents all know how important that is.
There are several ways to learn how to give a baby massage.
In the beginning, I watched YouTube videos on it.
Going to a baby massage group is another option to learn to massage your baby.
Or a good ol book on it.
The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) has been instructing parents around the world for over 25 years. For more information, including where to find a training course, click here!
Eden to Eden’s Perfectly Pure range, has an amazing massage oil called, Super Smoothing Massage Oil (SSMO)
It is rich, luxurious and will soothe sensitive skin, leaving your babba feeling baby soft and silky smooth. This gentle blend is designed with baby’s sensitive skin in mind.
Baby massage will help you understand and soothe your baby better, aid digestion, reduce crying and help relieve colic, wind and constipation.
When Israel had constipation at the hospital, I quickly took to YouTube, grabbed my SSMO and did baby massage, specifically for constipation. It took 2 days, but it worked. I was so happy to see a number 2.
After using the bath and bubble it’s our favourite time – baby massage. The massage oil is my favourite product at the moment. Aiyana loves massages and it has been a great bonding experience for us. Over the past few months, the massages have helped with digestion, preventing constipation, colic and enhancing sleep. The massage oil is perfect and a little really does go a long way.

I don’t need to tell you about how dodgy the chemicals in commercial massage oils. By now, you get just how much I hate the cheap chemicals that are in them.
