My household wouldn’t be complete without essential oils.
One thing you should know about me is that apart from my MS treatment (which took a lot of convincing), I’m not really a medicine kind of person.
At any and every opportunity, I readily reach for my essential oil collection.

I remember my husband saying to me years ago… ‘I can’t sleep’, I asked if he had tried lavender essential oil? To which he thought I was crazy.
In his defence, that is kinda true. However, when it comes to health, I don’t mess.
I convinced him to let me try lavender. I rubbed a few drops under his feet, and man, he fell asleep quickly and had a great sleep.
Since then, he’s been on board with my essential oil madness and even suggests using them at times.

Here are my 4 favourites: Lavender, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus and Frankincense.
Lavender oil is mostly extracted from the flowers from the plant through steam distillation.
This essential oil has so many different uses that it is called the Swiss army knife of oils. It has antibacterial, antiseptic properties and is full of antioxidants.
One of my favourite things about lavender essential oil is that it can be used directly on the skin without it being diluted with a carrier oil.
Lavender is one of a few essential oils that can be used on children’s skin. Just add 1 drop to a tablespoon of a carrier oil. I like coconut oil or sweet almond oil and apply it as needed.
Buying Essential Oils
When buying an essential oil, it is super IMPORTANT to get one from a well-trusted source. DO NOT get confused with fragrance oils, these CANNOT be used on your skin. They have ZERO health benefits and are made with chemicals to create the artificial smell.
I always get my essential oils from the same brand. Lavender oil is an inexpensive oil, for what it can actually do. I would recommend starting with the smallest size and trying it out first. You will love it and use it often and want to get a bigger bottle. Here is the one I use.

My Favourite Uses…
Lavender oil is perfect to be used for the nerves and anxiety issues because of its calming scent.
Add about 10 drops to a bath and have a well-deserved soak for at least 20 minutes, add 1 cup of Epsom salts, it will relieve the stress-related hormones, balance PH levels and soothe your skin.
A couple of drops in the palm of your hands and inhale
The tension will immediately disappear.
Burning the oil will induce a calmness to all that inhale it.
Relaxation will come IMMEDIATELY after receiving a massage. Use a few drops in a carrier oil like olive or coconut and enjoy.
- Aids in sleep
As I mentioned before, lavender oil induces sleep. You could use it with an essential oil burner, or a few drops on your pillow.
It can be used as an alternative treatment for insomnia. A few drops under your feet and there you go. Simple.
The first thought when acne decides to come for an uninvited and unwelcome visit is that adding oil will only clog the pores all the more. However, because of Lavender’s antibacterial and antiseptic properties, it won’t clog your pores and has the power to kill the bacteria naturally.
Add a few drops to a tablespoon of witch hazel and use it like a facial toner by dabbing it on a cotton wool swab and applying it to freshly cleansed skin.
- Heals cuts and insect bites
Put a drop of lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching and reduce swelling. A drop of oil on a cut stops the bleeding, cleans the wound and kills the bacteria.
There are many more different uses for Lavender Essential Oil, however, I have only touched on the uses that I use at home.
Our world is full of reasons to be stressed out, sleep deprived, anxious, the list could go on… and we as people are quick to reach for a tablet to aid in those situations, Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place where medication is important. However, if there is a way to use something that isn’t full of side effects, surely, that is worth a shot. Lavender Oil is a fantastic way to aid in our ailments. It is harmless and easy to use and the benefits are AMAZING.
